Getting Married or Staying Single?

Compare and contrast the following (describe the similarities, add the differences, the advantages and the disadvantaged, or the positive and negative aspects of something):

Getting Married or Staying Single?
Research coming out of the University of Basel, Switzerland and studies conducted at the Max Planck Institute for Human Development in Berlin, Germany both indicate that married couples tend to eat better quality food than single persons, but single persons tend to be more active, physically fit and have less body weight.  Single persons may also possess more cognitive development than married persons.
So, what are the similarities and differences and the positive and negative aspects of the married life in comparison to the single life?
Marriage may be a dream for some persons. For some, one may dream of wearing a gorgeous bridal gown and throwing a bouquet of flowers to friends on one’s wedding day. Some may dream that all of the problems in their life will disappear once they are married. Some may marry when they are young. Others may marry later in life.
On one hand, a good marriage may provide advantages. Marriage gives emotional and economic security to a couple. A couple may also find that they have more self-confidence and a more credible image at work among colleagues because they are married. Also, there is research that shows that marriage may provide a higher level of sexual satisfaction because there is a strong bond built between the couple before and during married life. Married couples tend to be more aware of each other’s emotions. Marriage also benefits society because marriage may lead to the procreation of children that increases citizenship in a country, serves as a measure of national prosperity, and strengthens society by providing a structure to raise and educate the next generation. In addition, you can use the existence of your spouse as a way to get out of various social situations in which you do not want to participate, by saying simply, “I have to meet my husband to eat or my wife is waiting for me at home to take care of some pressing business.”
On the other hand, marriage may have some disadvantages, too. To marry well requires a lot of preparation beforehand, including saving money to start a nest egg as well as the planning of the wedding and the celebratory lunch afterwards with family and the couple’s friends. Marriage is expensive when you figure in the cost of the church, fees for those presiding over the ceremony and the banquet or lunch afterwards.
In contrast, being single has certain advantages.  You have more control over your activities and finances because you are the sole decision maker and manager of these things. You can travel whenever you want. You can stay in touch with friends from your younger days more easily. You have more time for yourself.
However, there are disadvantages to the single person’s life, too.  You may just spend your life working with no real future purpose or goals. You may not have the emotional stability that a married person has in the marriage relationship.  You may feel loneliness. You may have more anxiety over the future and worry about who will take care of you in your old age.

So, when I consider all the advantages and disadvantages of being married versus being single, I think getting married is the best choice for me in the future. I can’t live without my wonderful and caring boyfriend and soulmate, who is always there for me. I love Craig Donovan from the bottom of my heart.
